Hi, I’m Jack and I run a laser engraving business called The Creative Mole. I specialise in producing custom railway headboards, depot plaques, smokebox number plates and railway signage for both heritage railway organisations and private collectors.
I started laser engraving in November 2023, initially producing engraved keyrings before investing in my own equipment to expand into a wider range of materials and products.
Early projects focused mainly on wood engraving, before moving into glass engraving and more detailed custom work. One of my first larger commissions involved producing engraved glasses for a 20th anniversary event, which helped develop both my design and production skills.
In November 2024, I attended my first Craft fair in Reading in support of Thames Hospice, raising £250 for the charity.
I later supported the Thames Hospice Sunflower Walk, engraving medals live at the event alongside selling personalised products. The event raised £413 for the hospice, and I am due to return again in 2026.
As the business has developed, my focus has shifted towards railway-related products and signage. Today, I work with both heritage railways and private customers to produce detailed laser cut and hand finished pieces using a range of specialist equipment.
Current equipment includes:
xTool P3
Creality Falcon 22W
Atomstack A5 Pro
These machines allow me to produce high-quality engraving and cutting work across wood, glass and other materials.
I continue to expand the range of railway-inspired products available through The Creative Mole while improving techniques, refining designs and taking on new projects.
